Erik's Artist Statement

I look at art simply as a form of visual expression frozen in place and time. I also see art as a means to express a thought, a feeling. or even perhaps an idea - visually expressed on canvas.

My artistic preference is to express my thoughts and feelings of tranquility, serenity and peace through seascapes - one of God's many gifts; the calm, warm and clear blue waters of Southern Florida's gulf coast beaches. these pristine waters and white sandy beaches. along with the playful dolphins, sea birds and mangroves that call these waters home, is from where I find my inspiration. I also however, find inspiration from my Latvian heritage - utilizing the forests, gentle slopes, valleys and open fields, coupled with the varying seasons and beautiful sunsets and sunrises as a backdrop to expression and emotion.

It is my hopes that my paintings provide the same personal reflection, escape and feelings of tranquility, serenity and peace to others as much as they do for me.

Erik is also passionate about helping others, and that help extends to animals.  “Animals, unlike people, have no means to express hunger, fear, pain or loneliness.  There are far fewer resources for these often abused, abandoned and in-need God’s creatures.  They need help as well.” So, Erik donates a portion of each sale of a painting to local animal protection and state/county sponsored rescue organizations.
